Kindle: Amazon's Wireless Reading Device
All who learn of the Kindle agree that this portable reading device is revolutionizing the way reading is done. The Kindle is a prime example that technology CAN help save our planet; it eliminates all paper so there is no need to chop down anymore of our beautiful trees. The Kindle instead features E-Ink (a registered trademark of Amazon.com); it imitates paper so that reading your favorite books, magazines, newspapers or even blogs is as easy on your eyes as it is on our environment. E-Ink is a great technology that allows you to read, from the Kindle, in direct sunlight without any worry of losing your text in the glare. This screen technology is unique to the Kindle.
I've always believed that the papercut, the tiniest of cuts that hurts like hell, was nature's way of getting back at us for chopping down her trees. A constant annoying, and not to mention hurtful, way of reminding us that we're doing something wrong here. The Kindle doesn't have any sharp edges or a grudge; it simply does what it was designed and engineered to do: make reading easier.
Anyone can agree that trees are bulky and awkward and you can also agree that a thousand books (in my case) is also bulky and awkward. Not everyone has the room to display their book collection or even to store their treasured texts because of their massive size and volume. Now, imagine carrying over two hundred books in a device the same size as ONE paperback. Or your ENTIRE book collection on an SD card the Amazon Kindle does exactly that! And, weighing in at just under 300 grams it also weighs less than most Stephen King novels. :)
Often times I like munching on a snack or fruit or even sip my coffee as I read, with the Kindle I can do just that. I hold my Kindle in one hand and can even turn pages without ever having to drop my apple or coffee, it's great. As I do research on the web on various products I prop my Kindle on my monitor and have even nore information directly in front of me. If I come across a book that may help in my research I download it directly onto my Kindle and, in under a minute, I'm reading that same book. And the best part is the Kindle does this without being connected to my computer.
How does the Kindle do that? Simple. Amazon simplified all of it for us using their Whispernet system. It's completely free to connect to and uses the same technology as your cell phone so that you can download all your favorite books, magazines, newspapers and blogs anywhere you are. Never worry if the bookstore has the title you're looking for, don't rush before the bookstore closes, if you have one minute you can get it with the Kindle. I think you can spare a minute. All your bestsellers The Kindle also allows you to download and read previews of your prospect texts before spending the money on them. With downloadable New York Times Bestsellers at under $10 you'll be on your way to reading thousands of books in no time.
Text too small? This is another cool feature I love about the Kindle the "Font Selector". I sometimes place my Kindle on the countertop or table as I go about my life, but like to get back to my story or article every so often. I increase the font size and simply do just that. You can even read standing up with the Kindle on the floor, I know, I've tried. Increasing the font size isn't something you can do with a conventional book or magazine.
Never Lose Your Place. Forget bookmarks, bending pages or even trying to remember what page you were on; the Kindle remembers exactly where you were so you never have to. You can also mark your page manually for later reference.
Built-In Dictionary. Come across a word or phrase you're not familiar with simply look it up using Kindle's built-in dictionary seamlessly. And if the 250, 000 definitions aren't enough get more with the built-in Wikipedia access. Tons of information at you fingertips anywhere you are. That's the power of the Kindle portable reading device.
There's not much more that I can say about my Kindle other than: I LOVE IT. It literally has changed the way that I read. My conscience is also freed in knowing that no trees will get hurt. The Kindle makes a great gift idea for the upcoming Holidays.
